Books I Am Reading Now

I love to read. LOVE to read. I always have several books around the house with bookmarks holding my place, but I am only counting the books I have actually read, at least a few pages, since September 1. Here they are: 1. The Book of Mormon. I highly recommend it! :-) 2. You're Wearing THAT? Understanding Mothers and Daughters in Conversation; by Deborah Tannen. Very interesting. Good insights on many female relationships, not just mother/daughter. 3. What Your Sixth Grader Needs to Know; edited by E.D. Hirsch. My cheat sheet in case I need to help with homework -- and fun to read! So much I have forgotten, or never knew. 4. Covenant Hearts, by Bruce C. Hafen. Shannon, I haven't forgotten that I have your book! I am enjoying it, and will mail or hand-deliver it when I finish it. Hopefully this year. 5. Sophie's World, by Jostein Gaardner. This is a paperback book I have had for years. Don't know where I got it, but the subtitle is "A Novel About the History of Philosophy." I always meant to take a philosophy class in college, but never did, so this sounded intriguing. I have only read three pages. I'll let you know! 6. Why Boys are Different, by Dr. Bonnie Macmillan. Turns out, their brains are different than girls', beginning from conception. Really interesting. Began and finished three YA reference books, again to help Maaike with homework (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!). These were great to read while nursing! Quick, easy to put down and pick up... 7. National Geographic American Heroes, by Marfe Ferguson Delano. Biased, but fascinating. 8. Tales of Famous Americans, by Connie and Peter Roop. Some redundancy, but again, some new and interesting stories. 9. Tales From Shakespeare, by Tia Packer. Really enjoyed this one! I have loved Shakespeare, but not always understood some of the background, especially in quick-paced plays like Twelfth Night. This tells ten famous stories and their backgrounds, and Shakespeare's background, so that I really understood the plays better. Now I want to watch them all performed! 10. Magazines: Ensign, Parenting, and Family Fun. I did get a library card, the first week we were here, but I am trying to read the books on my shelves -- that could keep me busy for a year or two!

So, are they using "What Every __ Grader Needs to Know" in your school there? George Washington uses them here and we love them! We're in 1st and 3rd. Gage reads his so he can be ahead (competitive!).
I'm currently reading "Eat, Pray, Love" for bookclub. Not sure what I think yet.
Love the blog!
